Pumpkin porridge
Milk pumpkin porridge is very easy to prepare and can also be offered to older children.
- 400 gr. peeled pumpkin;
- 1 glass of milk;
- 0.5 teaspoon salt;
- 0.5 teaspoon sugar;

Delicate casserole of pumpkin and cottage cheese
Both cottage cheese and pumpkin are products that are extremely healthy for the baby. But not all little picky eaters agree to eat them. However, even those children who refuse to eat fresh cottage cheese enjoy eating the casserole prepared according to the recipe. However, adults will also like this dish.
- 500 gr. pumpkins;
- 400 gr. cottage cheese;
- 4 tablespoons semolina;
- 3 eggs;
- 0.5 cups sugar;
- 3 tablespoons sour cream;
- 100 gr. butter;
- 1 sachet (10 g) vanilla sugar.
Warm the milk to room temperature and pour it over the semolina. Let the cereal stand for 30 minutes, during which time it will swell. If not all the milk has been absorbed, then it needs to be drained, but not poured out yet.
Meanwhile, cut the pumpkin into small cubes, the length of the edge of the cube is about 1 cm.
Pour a small amount of water over the pumpkin; the water should barely cover the cubes. Bring to a boil and, reducing heat, simmer until soft. It will take about 20 minutes to simmer. Drain the broth and mash it into a puree.
Rub the cottage cheese through a sieve or beat with a blender. Grind the eggs with added sugar. Turn on the oven to heat up, setting the heating temperature to 200 degrees. Mix cottage cheese with pumpkin puree and eggs with sugar, add the swollen semolina.
Mix everything, add sour cream. Mix well again.
Let's melt the butter. Grease the mold with some of the oil, pour the rest of the oil into the curd mass, add vanilla sugar. Mix everything well again. The mixture should be similar in consistency to pancake dough. If it turns out too thick, add a little milk.
Place the mixture in a greased pan and bake for 45 minutes at 180 degrees. Cut the casserole into pieces.

Features of choosing a pumpkin
The success of a delicious porridge largely depends on the sweetness of the pumpkin
- When choosing a vegetable, it is important to pay attention to the condition of the peel. There must be no scratches, stains, dents on the surface of the pumpkin, or traces of mold. It is important to have an elastic and dense peel.
- It must be taken into account that a large pumpkin loses its sweetness. It is better to give preference to vegetables weighing no more than 5 kg. An important feature: it should weigh more than it appears to be.
- It is recommended to buy pumpkin in the fall, during the harvesting season of this vegetable. It is better if you freeze the pumpkin and use it in the winter, taking it out of your freezer, than buying it in a supermarket, where it can be processed to extend its shelf life.
Cooking errors
You have already noticed how long the fruit is cooked in all recipes - 20-25 minutes. This is a lot, and for good reason. It's all about the special fibrous structure of the orange beauty. If you don’t finish cooking it, the finished dish will contain fibers, which your baby won’t like and he may even refuse to eat it.
Also, the structure of the product is quite dense compared to zucchini, cauliflower and broccoli - they are easily kneaded into porridge after 15 minutes of cooking. Not so with pumpkin.
If you cook it not long enough, lumps may appear in the finished dish even after blending. This can cause a gag reflex in the baby. Especially if you start complementary feeding with vegetables and these are one of your first foods, and you are about 7 months old.
Moreover, it is forbidden to give raw pumpkin to infants - this is already completely dangerous for the delicate stomach, which will probably not cope with digestion and the baby will suffer from indigestion or poisoning.
Therefore, be careful, now you know how to prepare pumpkin for complementary feeding correctly.
Cooking tips

- To speed up the cooking process, you need to chop the pumpkin into as small pieces as possible or grate it on a coarse grater.
- You can add natural spices to the dish, such as cinnamon, vanilla (if the child is already familiar with them).
- For older kids, pumpkin porridge can be diluted by adding cream.
- Cereals and pumpkin can be varied with dried apricots, raisins, prunes or apples.
Now you know that pumpkin porridge for a child can have a new taste every time, you just need to change the cereal or add dried fruits. When introducing your baby to a new dish, take into account the characteristics of his body, a history of allergies or cases of individual intolerance. In such a situation, acquaintance should be gradual and under supervision.
