*Review of the best according to the editors of expertology.ru. About the selection criteria. This material is subjective in nature, does not constitute advertising and does not serve as a purchase guide. Before purchasing, consultation with a specialist is required.

Parents are especially careful when choosing care products for their newborns. And although many people prefer water treatments every time they change a diaper, wet wipes are indispensable when traveling, while walking or going to the clinic. Unlike water, they not only remove the baby’s waste products, but also eliminate irritation and itching, and prevent the appearance of new rashes. The napkins are impregnated with a special solution, which excludes alcohol, bleach, chlorine and other chemically unsafe components. This is done so as not to cause allergies on the baby’s delicate, vulnerable skin.

The following ingredients may be included in the lotion formula:

  1. vitamin complexes that help restore the skin;
  2. plant extracts of chamomile, string, calendula, aloe vera, which have a healing effect;
  3. natural oils of wheat germ, jojoba, avocado to soften and eliminate dryness;
  4. juices of medicinal plants that promote rapid healing of micro-wounds.

The napkins themselves are made from non-woven material of natural or artificial origin. Different brands make plates in different sizes.

Base for wet wipes

About ten years ago, a completely new product appeared on store shelves - wet wipes.
The composition of such products for the care of a newborn at that time frightened many parents, but after some time the quality of the products improved significantly.

Today, wet wipes are used by almost everyone. After all, you can take them with you on the road, on a hike, or use them to take care of yourself or your baby.

What are wet wipes for newborns made of? The composition of the products is quite simple. The basis is non-woven fabric. It could be:

  • spunbond,
  • chemicalbond,
  • airlade,
  • thermal bond,
  • spunlace and so on.

This material has a pleasant texture and high quality. Thanks to this base, wet wipes are very soft and pleasant to the touch.

The base can be made from artificial and natural fibers. Most often, cotton is used to produce wet wipes. This component perfectly absorbs and then retains moisture.

Impregnation composition

Wet wipes for newborns are impregnated with a special composition that has an antibacterial effect.

However, what ingredients the solution consists of remains a trade secret. Companies do not disclose this information.

It is known that care products for a newborn baby have cream components, ions of purified water, as well as a variety of lotions. To mask the specific aroma of the finished product, flavorings are added to the composition.

How to store?

Before purchasing products to ensure your child’s hygiene, you should pay attention to the following information:

  1. Date of manufacture and expiration date. You should not purchase a product that has expired; using such napkins is dangerous to your health. As a rule, the shelf life of such products ranges from 18 to 30 months.
  2. Also, the packaging of napkins should not have any damage, signs of tampering, etc.
  3. You should buy hygiene products in pharmacies or specialized children's goods stores.
  4. The packaging must contain information about the manufacturer and composition of the product.
  5. It is also worth considering that the optimal quantity in one pack is 60-80 napkins; if there are more than 100, then they can dry out from frequent opening of the package.

The material of the product is also of great importance. It is known that napkins made from natural fibers retain their original properties longer than those made from synthetic fabric .

Tip : After using one or more wipes, close the packaging tightly to prevent air from entering and to prevent the others from drying out.

Material and safe components included

Even 10 years ago, mothers were wary of this new innovation, but today wet wipes are an integral accessory in caring for newborns. They take them with them on the road, shops, guests, wipe their hands and face when there is no access to water. They are convenient to use and not expensive.

Over time, the quality of wet wipes has improved, and the composition has been simplified as much as possible. The basis is non-woven fabric, for example, spunbond, chemicalbond, thermalbond, airlaid, spunlace. These materials are very durable and have an airy texture that is pleasant to the touch. They absorb and retain moisture well.

As for impregnation, a special composition is used for newborns, which has an antibacterial effect.

It is recommended to use wet wipes, even the highest quality ones, only when it is not possible to wash the baby under tap water. It is not recommended to use them constantly, since delicate skin can react negatively to the chemicals included in the composition, which can lead to the appearance of rashes, hives, redness, and irritation.

What is usually included in high-quality wet wipes:

  • water;
  • softening ingredients;
  • natural fragrance (usually essential oils or volatile compounds are used);
  • citric acid (to regulate pH levels);
  • vitamin components that promote the healing of wounds and scratches (vitamin A, E);
  • extracts of medicinal plants (chamomile, string, sage, celandine, aloe vera);
  • vegetable oils to soften the skin (wheat germ, jojoba, lavender).

Acid or alkali?

Wet wipes for newborns, intended for children from the first days of life, as a rule, do not contain alcohol, salicylic acid and other aggressive disinfectants. However, as it turned out, even approved components can cause skin irritation in a child. According to the results of clinical trials, it turned out that two types of napkins - Japanese Merries and Russian Johnson's Baby - cause a vascular reaction on the skin.

Natalya Fedorova, dermatologist, expert at Rostest JSC:

“According to tests carried out using specialized equipment and adapted methods for measuring the functional parameters of the skin, a vascular reaction at the capillary level was detected on two samples of wet wipes - erythema, which may be due to the presence of organic acids in the composition. One sample contains anisic and citric acids, the second contains succinic acid. These acids have a cleansing, mild bactericidal and bacterio- and fungistatic* effect. In acceptable concentrations, these acids are harmless, but on sensitive skin they can cause temporary vascular manifestations.”

(*Fungistatic effect - manifested in delaying and stopping the growth of fungi).

If used once, these wipes won't cause much harm to a baby, but if used several times a day over a long period of time, there is a high risk of skin irritation, experts say.

But these wipes clean better than anyone else. Merries and Johnson's Baby have shown their high effectiveness after just a single use. This cleansing effect is associated not only with the presence of acids.

Do we pay for water?

Japanese wet wipes GOO.N also surprised experts. Their cleansing effect is close to zero. Experts compared it to the effect of a napkin, similar in structure, soaked in distilled water. Even after twice use, GOO.N do not cleanse the skin of impurities.

This is easy to explain: they do not contain any surfactants. Only water, antiseptics, preservatives and a moisturizing component.

Experts have confirmed that these wipes really moisturize the skin, the humidity level increases by almost 80%, but after 10 minutes it returns to its previous values.

Be careful when choosing

The rating of wet wipes for newborns will help you make your choice. However, do not forget about the basic rules of application.

It is not recommended to constantly wipe your baby's skin with such care products. After all, many manufacturers add aggressive, acidic or alkaline components to their products. Such substances can negatively affect the condition of the delicate skin of a newborn baby.

As a result of frequent use of such products, the baby may develop hives, redness and other manifestations of allergies.

When choosing such products, special attention should be paid to the composition.

Honest manufacturing companies indicate on the packaging of their products the availability of appropriate certificates, dermatologist approval and registration with health authorities.

In addition, packages containing wet wipes may contain information about important safety aspects, the postal address of the company, and e-mail.

When choosing napkins, you should pay attention to their quantity in the package. For a walk, a small bag with no more than 20 pieces is suitable. You can take a larger package for home. Boxes containing about 80 wet wipes are available for sale.

Size and quantity per package

Most baby wipes have a standard size of approximately 10 by 15 centimeters . But, cheaper products can offer smaller and rather thin napkins, which will be inconvenient to carry out hygiene procedures.

A pack of baby wipes can contain from 15 to 70-80 pieces. You can also find packages containing 100 or more napkins on sale.

Safe components in the impregnation composition

You should pay special attention to the composition of impregnation for baby wet wipes .
Some manufacturers, in order to store their products for a longer period, impregnate them with substances that can cause an allergic reaction. The impregnation composition of hygiene products that is safe for babies usually includes water, cream ingredients, vitamin compounds, extracts of various medicinal plants, citric acid, glycerin, moisturizing agents, and plant oils.

Material for the manufacture of children's hygiene products

The basis of wet wipes is non-woven fabric; most often manufacturers make products from spunbond, spunlace, airlaid, thermal bond, chemical bond. Any of these materials has a pleasant, delicate texture; napkins made from them are soft.

Important : Due to the high content of cotton fibers, these hygiene products absorb and retain moisture well.

What substances should not be present?

All children's hygiene products undergo numerous clinical tests and have various certificates . But despite this, some ingredients in the impregnation should be avoided and products that contain them should not be purchased.

It is highly undesirable to use baby wipes that contain the following components:

  1. Propylene glycol, Polyethylene glycol . These substances are a mixture of petrochemical products that have a high ability to absorb moisture. It is believed that these components can cause a large number of side effects.
  2. Phenoxyethanol . This component is of synthetic origin and often causes allergic reactions.
  3. Disodium EDTA . In impregnations for napkins, it is included as a softener for a component such as water. May cause irritation to the baby's skin.
  4. Ceteareth . It is an emulsifier and surfactant, of semi-synthetic origin, it is obtained from fatty acids and ethylene oxide.

Pediatricians consider the above substances to be too aggressive for delicate children's skin; the use of hygiene products containing them in the impregnation composition can provoke the appearance of hives, redness, and allergic rashes.

What it is?

Attention : Wet baby wipes are called baby hygiene products. This item is a small piece of material impregnated with a special composition.

Wet wipes for newborns can be used for baby hygiene. They are convenient to use in places where it is difficult to wash a child, for example, while traveling or being away from home. You can also use wet wipes to clean your baby's hands or face.

Despite the fact that this product is very convenient to use, it cannot replace washing with water and baby soap. Wipes are not intended for daily cleaning of a child when changing a diaper .

The skin of newborns is very vulnerable and any contact with the environment can provoke an allergic reaction. Products for children should contain as few artificial and chemical substances as possible. Wipes for babies should not contain ethyl alcohol in their impregnation.

As a rule, manufacturers of baby wet wipes use the following substances to impregnate them:

  1. Lotions, cream or oil . These components undergo preliminary testing for the presence of elements that can cause allergies.
  2. Vegetable oils . These include olive oil, jojoba or avocado. These substances protect the baby's skin from irritation.
  3. Vitamins . Vitamins A and E are often used for impregnation, which help heal damage to the skin.
  4. Herbal supplements , such as chamomile, string or aloe vera extracts. These components give the wipes the ability to soften the skin and prevent the development of inflammatory processes on it.
  5. Natural juices of medicinal plants - chamomile, calendula, aloe vera, celandine and others.
  6. Fragrances that give baby products a pleasant aroma.

The composition of the impregnation of wipes for the care of newborns is less aggressive than products intended for adults, therefore it is not recommended to use your own usual hygiene products to cleanse the baby.

Opinion of parents and specialists

The range of products for caring for a newborn baby is quite large, but the quality is not always good. Not long ago, Roskontrol conducted its research. The process involved wet wipes from Pampers for newborns, Johnson's Babies, Huggies and Meries.

Not all of the submitted samples turned out to be safe. Johnson Baby and Meries products contain strong acids that can cause serious skin irritation in a baby.

However, these components have an excellent cleansing effect. Therefore, you can use such products, but not often.

The best, according to experts and parents, are “Haggis” wet wipes for newborns.

They are not only soft and gentle, but also safe. Such baby care products perfectly cleanse the skin without causing harm.

As for the rest of the products, they are not so safe. Many manufacturers indicate that their products do not contain alcohol, have been tested by dermatologists and other specialists, are hypoallergenic, and so on.

However, numerous studies have shown that the impregnation contains alcohols, components harmful to the baby’s skin, and synthetic fragrance.

It is for this reason that experts recommend using such products to care for the skin of a newborn baby only in extreme cases.

Huggis wet wipes, which have been tested and undergone many studies, are recognized as the safest and most effective.

Features of napkins for children

Thanks to these hygiene products, it became possible not to worry about the lack of water, for example, on a train or in nature. Use wet wipes to wipe the baby's face and hands, and, if necessary, the bottom. However, it is worth considering that water is the best way to wash away dirt and traces of bowel movements, and wet wipes do not replace a full wash of the child, but are used only in cases of extreme necessity.

Not all products on the market for baby products are of equal quality and safe for the baby, so choose hygiene products responsibly so as not to harm the baby’s delicate skin.
