Now we will eat: rating of the best milk formulas for children in 2021

All manufacturers of baby food for newborns strive to develop a product that is as close in composition as possible to breast milk. After all, it is the best food for babies.

For this purpose, large companies create laboratories where they study the composition of breast milk and create components for adapted formulas.

Adapted milk formulas are produced without palm oil, starch and glucose and contain only breast milk components. Nutrition for a later period - from 6 months or from a year is called partially adapted and may contain these components in its composition.

How to understand that the mixture is not suitable

If the food is not suitable for your child, you will immediately understand - something will be wrong. Frequent regurgitation, constant colic, constipation, stools of unusual color and consistency - all these may be indicators that you should think about changing your diet. The child may not gain weight well, refuse a bottle, or sleep poorly.

In any case, these are all reasons to consult a doctor. After all, the matter may be not only in nutrition, but also in some kind of infection.

Choose the right food and let your children be healthy!

Indications for artificial feeding

Agalactia is a complete absence of breast milk.

Diseases of the cardiovascular, hepatic and other systems in the mother, in the stage of decompensation.

Mental illnesses of the mother (psychosis, epilepsy, schizophrenia).

Skin diseases in the mammary gland area.

Congenital metabolic disorders in a child, metabolic diseases (galactosemia, phenylketonuria and others).

Taking toxic drugs by the mother (cytostatics, radioactive drugs, etc.).

Features of artificial feeding

  1. The child receives artificial formula from a bottle with a nipple, so they must be sterile. When feeding, the bottle is placed at an angle so that air does not enter the mouth (to prevent regurgitation and vomiting);
  2. The hole in the nipple should be such that the mixture comes out in drops and does not flow out in a stream. Currently, there are nipples on sale with holes that correspond to the month of a child's life. If the mother has at least a little milk, the baby should definitely get it, but after an easy supply of milk from the bottle, the baby may refuse the breast, since sucking at the breast is “hard work.” In this case, some experts advise feeding the baby formula from a spoon or cup;
  3. The temperature of the mixture should be 37-38 degrees;
  4. The mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for no more than 24 hours, and at room temperature for no more than 2 hours;
  5. Complementary feeding is introduced to children who are bottle-fed 3-4 weeks earlier than with natural feeding. First complementary foods at 3.5-4 months. Since they are already developing adaptation to foreign nutritional agents.

Legal justification for dairy cuisine in 2021

The legal basis for providing this type of assistance is supported by Government Order No. 292 of 04/06/14. Article 1 specifies the groups of persons who are eligible to receive assistance. Article 3 states that women have the right to receive products starting from the 12th week of pregnancy. Breastfeeding women receive nutrition until the child is six months old.

Appendix 1, paragraph 3, contains a list of required documents, and paragraph 7 states that the kits can be issued only after examination by a doctor. Paragraph 18 of this appendix states that the operating schedule of milk distribution points is determined directly by the organizations themselves. Most often they issue in the morning (some start working at 6:30), some work until the evening.

You should find out the exact schedule directly from your doctor.

Paragraph 21 states that upon receipt of the required products, the employee of the social support center must put a mark in a special document. Thus, the process and volumes of issuing food packages to the population are controlled.

In other appendices you can find a list of criteria by which the need for assistance is determined, and a table of norms for the distribution of milk nutrition for children and women. The same law contains an example of filling out an application and a doctor’s report form, which parents must submit to the milk distribution point.

If a family lives in a city where there is no special government agency, or simply does not have the opportunity to come for a kit, they may be given financial assistance. The problem is that the amount of this assistance is not commensurate with real prices in average grocery stores. The state issues money that could be spent on providing milk to a child, but the price of the product under government contracts is lower than on the market.

Power calculation

To calculate the required amount of milk, they use the volumetric method and determine the child’s daily needs for basic food ingredients (this is often used to make nutritional corrections).

Daily requirement for basic food ingredients

ageenergy Kcal/kgproteins g/kgfat g/kgcarbohydrates g/kg
0-3 months1202,36,513
4-6 months1152,56,013
7-12 months1103,05,513

Content of ingredients in artificial mixtures g/100ml (data available on packaging)

"Baby""Baby""Nutrilon" up to 6 months"Nan""Detolact"
squirrels2,02,01,41,61,8
fats3,43,43,63,43,7
carbohydrates7,07,07,27,27,3
energy(kcal/100ml)7575666770

Example. The child is 2 months old, birth weight 3600 g, 6 feedings a day (6:00, 9:30, 13:00, 16:30, 20:00, 23:30). The child receives the Nutrilon mixture

Proper body weight = 3600 g + 600 g + 800 g = 5000 g Daily food volume = 1/6 of body weight = 5000: 6 = 833.3 (840 ml); Volume of food per feeding = 840: 6 = 140 ml;

A child's daily ingredient needs:

  • proteins - 2.3 g (cm tab.) x 5.0 kg = 11.5 g
  • fats-6.5 x 5.0=30 g
  • carbohydrates-13 x 5=65 g
  • energy 120 x 5.0=600 kcal

Amount of ingredients in 840 ml of Nutrilon mixture:

  • proteins 8.4 x 1.4 = 11.7 g
  • fats 8.4 x 3.6 = 30.2 g
  • carbohydrates8.4 x 7.2=60.4 g
  • energy 8.4 x 66 = 554.4 kcal

The difference between the child’s needs and the amount of ingredients received should not exceed 1-1.5 g, and the energy content should not exceed 50 kcal.

In this case, the child receives a sufficient amount of ingredients. If there is a big difference between the child’s needs and the amount received, then nutritional correction is carried out

What is liquid baby food?

This food is ready to eat, you just need to warm it up. Such mixtures are already bottled in convenient, hermetically sealed bottles of small portion size.

One bottle is usually intended for one or two feedings of the baby. Mom can only pour it into a bottle with a pacifier and heat it up.

The first liquid infant formula appeared on the Russian market about 20 years ago, much later than dry formula. And until now, such nutrition occupies about 10% of the market, while 90% is dry instant infant formula.

In European countries, the situation is exactly the opposite - ready-made liquid infant formulas occupy the largest share of the market, while dry formulas are considered auxiliary nutrition.

Necessary documents for obtaining milk allowance

Assistance for adequate nutrition can be obtained by providing a passport. In this case, no additional payments are required. In order to be eligible for such assistance, parents or pregnant women must write an application to the social welfare office or hospital.

Package of documents

Certain documents will need to be presented to the issuing authority. Among them:

  • child’s birth certificate (original + certified copy);
  • policy (compulsory medical insurance);
  • certificate of the child’s place of registration;
  • if special products are required, a doctor’s certificate about the newborn’s health status and nutritional recommendations must be attached to the package of documents.

Medical Insurance Policy
The following certificates may optionally be required:

  • a certificate stating that the family is recognized as low-income;
  • a document confirming the status of a large family;
  • a conclusion confirming that the child has a disability group.

All this needs to be combined and submitted to the appropriate service.

Sample application

A sample application for assistance in a dairy kitchen can be obtained from your children's or antenatal clinic, or look at the law. The law also contains examples of other documents that may be needed when applying for benefits.

Application example

Registration procedure

If a woman is breastfeeding, she can leave a statement at the children's clinic; during pregnancy, at the antenatal clinic. Previously, it was possible to receive food assistance even without Moscow registration - parents registered for a temporary place of registration and received sets of dairy products on the same basis as native Muscovites. The updated bill says nothing about this.

Another negative fact was that parents cannot pick up food at their actual place of residence, since the kits are issued only at their place of registration.

After contacting a gynecologist or pediatrician, a referral is issued to receive a nutritional supplement. Such certificates are usually valid from one to three months. A referral, which will be valid for six months, can be given to disabled children or from a large family.

The duration of the prescription is determined directly by the doctor, based on the patient’s health indicators. In order not to interrupt the constant receipt of products at the milk distribution point, it is necessary to systematically update these directions.

How to choose?

Ask your pediatrician to recommend appropriate foods for your baby. He will do this taking into account the health and absorption of your child's food.

The pediatrician may recommend 2 or 3 brands that are suitable for age and composition, from which parents will have to choose according to their affordability and availability.

It is very important that baby food can be easily purchased or ordered for delivery. And also so that you can afford it. After all, if the mixture is suitable, then there is no need to change it - this is a lot of stress for the baby’s body.

You will also have to choose a format - most products for babies are produced in the form of powdered milk formula, which is diluted with water. But there is also ready-made food that just needs to be heated.
