Sample daily routine for a seven-month-old baby
It is worth considering that each person is individual, and children’s daily routine may differ. Therefore, an approximate sleep-wake schedule was developed for a 7-year-old child.
The optimal option is if during the day sleep and wakefulness alternate each other and last for 2 hours:
- At 7 o'clock in the morning the baby wakes up. Parents feed the baby.
- From 7 to 9 the baby is awake.
- From 9 to 11 he sleeps.
- From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the baby is awake. After waking up he eats.
- From 13 to 15 the baby goes to rest again.
- At 15:00 the baby is fed again, and until 17:00 he is awake.
- The baby should be put to bed at 5 pm.
- At 19.00 the baby wakes up, eats, and is active until 21.00. Half an hour before bedtime, at 20.30, you need to bathe the baby.
- At 21.00 the baby is put to bed.
If necessary, night feeding is carried out at 23.00.
7 month old baby's daily routine by the hour
Our baby's daily routine at 7 months
What is the approximate daily routine of a 7 month old child? On the table above, for your convenience, I have briefly outlined our routine, and below you can read details about our everyday life
08:30 — We wake up at the same time as before. We hug, kiss, air our butts, wash ourselves and go play in bed while mom prepares breakfast, brushes her teeth, etc. Let's go feed. By the way, we have finally started complementary feeding!
09:30 — After breakfast, I try to do something around the house if the child is in the mood. When my daughter gets tired of sitting in a high chair, we go crawling - my daughter is already actively exploring the space, crawling out into the corridor, as soon as I leave the room for a minute.
10:30 — Our baby gets tired quite quickly, so after two hours she still starts being capricious = asking to sleep. It goes under the chest and sweetly dozes for 1-1.5 hours. A great opportunity for me to relax or blog!
12:00 — We’ll have lunch and get ready to go outside. For everything about everything, two hours after which you need to return home to sleep, otherwise a capricious and tired child is guaranteed. We are now walking, making a circle around the area around picturesque ponds, ending the promenade at one of the children's playgrounds, where we look at the slides, swings, children on our hands, touch the trees, etc.))
14:00 - Time for second nap. In 90% of cases it lasts two hours. If mom “couldn’t sleep” at night, mom sleeps too. And it's great, I tell you! Since after such a rest a new day begins for me - energy is replenished, my mood improves, and productivity increases. Imagine: two days in one! In the evening, I can’t even believe that it was all one day. Does this happen to you?
16:00 — If there are no urgent matters, we go for a second walk. If there is, the child goes to crawl, and the mother fusses somewhere nearby. But in the evening I still try to pay more attention to the baby.
18:00 - Last daytime (or evening?) nap. Some will say it’s too late... But it turned out to be best for us. We tried to stay awake until bedtime and either got a capricious child, or the daughter fell asleep perfectly at 8-9 and woke up an hour later, intending to go for a walk. No, I was not happy with this state of affairs! Therefore, after 2-2.5 hours, when the baby begins to get overexcited, I take her in my arms, sing a lullaby, stroke her - and she soon closes her eyes, which proves the need for evening sleep. After 40-60 minutes we have a cheerful child again, and at this time the mother can read a book. It is very important for a blogger to constantly improve himself!
19:00 — We meet dad from work, play, crawl (you can throw the little one off for dad). Don’t forget to spend at least half an hour every day for yourself and replenish your energy. Otherwise, you can get emotional burnout, or even fall into depression... It’s good when the husband understands this and gives the opportunity to be alone with himself, and he himself will make up for the lack of communication with the child.
20:30 - Approximate time for taking a bath. Sometimes at 8 pm, sometimes at 9, but I don’t recommend deviating too much from the schedule. Since we started bathing our daughter at the same time, she began to fall asleep much easier and faster ! And before that there was even a guard shout, I wrote about this in the article the daily routine of a child at 5 months. After a bath, the baby is usually very hungry, so we quickly do all the hygiene procedures and feed the baby.
21:30-22:00 - To the side! As always with breasts, and that suits me (read my article How to put a baby to sleep without motion sickness. The lazy mother’s method). While going to bed, there is an opportunity to read a book; in the evening I read something lighter and more artistic. It takes 20-30-40 minutes to completely fall asleep, when I can “escape” to a date with my husband. Or blog. Or watch the series. Or just drink tea in silence. In general, enjoy your freedom! To be honest, an hour in the evening is enough to recharge for the next day, but somehow I don’t want to return to complete freedom.
About the feeding schedule
The main changes in the daily routine of a 7-month-old baby lie in the refusal of night feedings. Experts advise feeding your baby 5 times a day. There should be 4 hours between meals. This diet gradually accustoms the child to a normal food consumption schedule based on breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner.
Breast-feeding
If the baby is breastfeeding, he should drink 500 milliliters of breast milk. In this case, the feeding regimen does not change. The volume of complementary foods should also be 500 grams or milliliters.
Mixed feeding
If the baby is on mixed feeding, the indicators will be slightly different. In this case, the volume of complementary foods will be 600 grams, and milk or formula - 400. The first meal of food is offered to the baby immediately after waking up.
Artificial feeding
If the baby is bottle-fed, nutritional standards will be similar, as in the case of mixed feeding. At the same time, milk is excluded from the baby’s diet. Instead, only formula and complementary foods are given.
If a baby at this age does not want to consume complementary foods, pediatricians advise young parents to give it immediately after the baby wakes up.
In this case, the likelihood that the baby will still try the food due to hunger increases.
Sleep duration
Normally, a seven-month-old baby should sleep between 14 and 16 hours. This time is distributed as follows:
- You need to get 9-10 hours of sleep at night.
- During the day, 5-6 hours is enough.
- They go to bed three times during the day for 1.5-2 hours.
There is a reduction in sleep in a 7 month old baby during the daytime. Babies fall asleep best after feeding. You should avoid breastfeeding at night. Then, falling asleep at 21 o'clock, the baby will wake up at 6 o'clock. At the same time, he will have uninterrupted sleep.
It is difficult for a baby to switch to a different daily routine when they are put to bed 3 times. Some mothers decide to take two naps a day. But for a seven-month-old baby it will be difficult. It is better to lay 3 times, gradually moving to 9 months for reduction.
How long should a baby sleep at seven months?
At 7 months, babies' sleep patterns may vary. Some babies still need to rest three times throughout the day. In this case, sleep lasts 1.5-2 hours. And some babies are already completely physiologically prepared for the transition to a regime that involves napping twice a day. In this case, it is recommended to let children sleep in the morning - from 11 to 12.30 and in the evening - from 16 to 17.30.
Due to such features of the physiological restructuring of the body, the total duration of sleep may vary. For some babies it will reach an average of 13 hours, and for others - 11.
Daytime nap
If the frequency of the baby's need for daytime sleep has dropped at 7 months, while he feels cheerful and is active, parents should not panic. It’s just that the baby’s body began to actively adapt to the environment, and its duration of wakefulness exceeded the need for sleep. Therefore, it is not worth putting such a child to bed based on the previous daily routine.
Some children rest for 2-3 hours during a walk. At the same time, in the evening they fall asleep for a maximum of 1 hour.
Night sleep
The optimal duration of night sleep for a 7-month-old baby is 8.5-9 hours. At the same time, babies begin to sleep more soundly, as they no longer need to feed at night.
Sleep duration at 7 months
According to statistics, children at seven months should sleep about 15 hours a day. Parents should remember that these are averages and all children are unique. Therefore, sometimes boys or girls may sleep more or less than normal.
At night, children at 7 months sleep about 11-12 hours. Babies who are formula-fed may wake up a couple of times during the night to feed themselves. Those who are breastfeeding can wake up almost every hour at this age. This is why nursing mothers prefer to sleep with their children.
During the day, children sleep on average 3-3.5 hours. All waking hours include walking, feeding, playing, getting ready for bed, and falling asleep. Each time the activity should not exceed 3 hours.
At 7 months there is a transition to daytime rest; now the child only needs two naps for an hour or a little more. This transition takes place over a couple of weeks; for this, parents need not to suddenly change the child’s routine. For each baby, this is a period that proceeds differently, so children can sleep as much as they want.
Still, they try not to let children be active for more than 3 hours. If you do not follow these intervals, you may miss the moment when you need to put him to bed, after which it will be much more difficult to put the child to sleep.

A set of hygiene procedures
An older baby still needs to maintain hygiene. Therefore, every parent needs to start their baby’s day with washing and washing before changing the diaper. In the evening, the child must be bathed. In the evening, you can start washing your baby in the bathroom, and put an anti-slip mat on the bottom. During bathing, you can attract the baby's attention with additional toys.
At this age, you can offer them a watering can or bucket. Manipulations with water transfusion will help activate the development of fine motor skills.
Also at this time it is necessary to begin caring for the baby's first teeth. To carry out such hygiene procedures, you will need to purchase specialized napkins that resemble finger pads. They are soaked in a solution to clean teeth. The napkin needs to be fixed on your finger, and then gently wipe your teeth, tongue, and oral cavity. This procedure must be done at the end of each feeding. If there are no special cleaning wipes, you can use a bandage to clean the mouth.
Educational games and exercises
Physical exercises carried out with babies are directly related to massage. It can be performed before gymnastics, warming up the child’s body, and after it in order to relieve tension.
The massage includes the following actions:
- massaging the arms, rubbing the fingers and feet;
- lifting and crossing arms;
- squats from a supine position;
- massage of the buttocks and back with stroking and pinching;
- lifting the body from a position on the tummy;
- flexion and extension of limbs;
- standing up while supporting the child by the arms;
- stretching, stimulation of crawling on all fours;
- raising straight legs and pulling them towards the baby’s forehead;
- tummy massage.
The most interesting and useful games for a baby at this age are pyramids, cubes, building houses and towers. Children also like toys such as Vanka-Vstanka, tumbler, spinning top, they enjoy playing hide and seek, sorter, they like to look for hidden things, watch pictures, listen to children's songs.
When it comes to the baby’s health and his future successes, it is important for adults to clearly understand what a child’s daily routine should be at 7 months. This is the key to its harmonious development and empowerment of parents in their daily activities and concerns.

Walking with your baby
When the baby turns 7 months old, his daily routine should include at least 2 walks. The baby's stay in the fresh air promotes physiological and intellectual development. If you regularly walk with your child, he will be familiar with the world around him and will receive a lot of impressions from meeting new living beings and objects. At this time, the child pays attention not only to surrounding images, but also to sounds.
While spending time outdoors, parents must ensure the safety of their child. If the baby moves too actively, he needs to be securely placed in the stroller so that he cannot fall out of it. You should also use protective cosmetics. Such creams and lotions will protect sensitive baby skin from the sun, wind, and low temperatures.
