1. Jean Ledloff “How to raise a happy child. The principle of continuity"
This book was published back in 1975, but to this day has not lost its relevance. It is best to read this book before giving birth, as it will completely change the way you think about the essentials of life for a baby. Here you can learn about what most contributes to the development of a creative, happy and friendly personality, and what a civilized society can bring up in a child.
2. Martha and William Sears "Waiting for Baby"
This is one of the best books for women expecting their first child. It describes all the months of pregnancy very well and clearly, contains answers to the most frequently asked questions, as well as useful tips on how to properly prepare for childbirth.
3. Martha and William Sears "Your Baby from Birth to Two Years"
This book is a continuation of the previous one. A young mother and child were taken from the maternity hospital. And parents immediately have a lot of questions: “How to feed? How to put to bed? The authors of the book are parents of eight children, so they can teach modern parents a lot.
4. Grantley Dick-Reed “Childbirth without fear”

7. Evgeny Komarovsky “The health of the child and the common sense of his relatives”
The famous pediatrician Evgeny Komarovsky has published more than one book on child care, but this one is the most applied. It describes in detail and in accessible language the author’s opinion on a variety of issues. In his book, the author urges parents to carefully weigh any decision regarding their child and not go to extremes. Parents do not always agree with the opinion of this doctor, but we still recommend reading the book.
8. Janusz Korczak “How to Love a Child”
This book can be called a kind of bible for parents. Here you will not find answers to specific questions or advice on what to do in a given situation. Books for parents to read before and after the baby arrives
Hello my dear friend! (for some reason it seems to me that my first ever blog post should begin with this phrase)
Let's introduce ourselves: I am the mother of a girl, Verochka, who turned 4 months old not so long ago, and who fell asleep right now, giving me time to share her thoughts. This is my first time starting my own blog, and I hope that it will turn out to be honest and open, because everything that I will write about really happens to me.
When a child appears in your life, a bunch of things appear at the same time: diapers, a crib, toys, a bath, oils, creams, powder, towels, a diaper, rompers... In general, the list is long, as you understand. But the last thing that appears is books.
It’s clear that when you’ve been preparing for 9 months for the appearance of a small miracle and your head is filled with a vinaigrette of thoughts, fears, questions, you read everything, greedily pounce on any information that can somehow prepare you for the upcoming event, make lists books for the future that are a must read.
But then the most important event in your life happens, and you forget about everything until, as if on an alarm clock, you start looking for those very early development methods that everyone is talking about.
And so you start reading this popular science literature and somewhere on page 15 you slowly fall asleep... I’m not saying that reading such books is bad, no, on the contrary, it is important and necessary. But for myself, I found paper friends whose language is easy and pleasant , and it is with them that I completely forget about the time until they call me “over the speakerphone” (that’s what I tell myself when Vera wakes up and starts calling me).
I read while I feed . My daughter is the most attentive listener, and I am very grateful to her for that. So, here's a list of books we've covered with her over the past 13 months:
Before birth:
1. William and Martha Sears "Waiting for Baby"
This book is recommended on all the top book lists for moms. If you have never had a child, be sure to read it - you will learn a lot about yourself and get answers to questions from a medical point of view.
But don’t forget that this work was written by Americans, and it’s better to flip through the chapters on where and how to choose a midwife and a maternity hospital, where you can bring a whole bathtub with you. This book contains a very convenient dictionary of obstetric terms and applications about diseases and emergency childbirth.
I took this tome (573 pages!) with me on a trip when I went to the sea with my husband, being 4-5 months pregnant. I read it out loud to my husband on the beach, and then he read it to me. That's how we had fun. And this book also has a built-in diary with the ability to paste in monthly photos of you and your belly. But we are lazy and did not do this. I'll definitely do it next time!
2. E.O. Komarovsky "The Beginning of Life"
This is my printed version. It is the same, but under a different name, “The health of the child and the common sense of his relatives.”
This book has become a reference book for me and my husband. I haven’t met men who love to read, and I married just such a man, but I couldn’t imagine that he would quote passages from this book and listen to the audio version given to him.
It has everything: practical advice, humor, and a very important chapter for grandparents, which they must read before leaving the hospital in order to avoid unnecessary emotions.
Thanks to this book, my husband took on many responsibilities in the first month after giving birth. I never believed before that books could motivate me to do something (for example, the sensational bestseller “how to quit smoking”), but it turns out that it really is real!
True, everything is relative: two mothers excitedly told me that I urgently needed to read it, and the other two said that they had never heard of it and did not want to hear about it. So it's up to you to choose. For me personally, she is irreplaceable.
3. “The most important Russian book by mother. Pregnancy. Childbirth. The first years"
This book remains a mystery to me. To be honest, I couldn’t finish reading it. But I found something useful: about yoga, for example. Plus, as a bonus, she was very funny, especially in the place where it is written that “17-20 weeks, the fifth lunar month passes under the auspices of Jupiter.” And it was also suggested that if you had a nightmare at night during pregnancy, you should go to the bathroom, open the tap and tell him the dream so that the nightmare would “flow away.” I have a hard time believing in such things, but, thank God, my daughter Vera was born without these tricks.
4. “French children don’t spit food.”
In my case, I started reading this book well after the birth of my daughter, just at 4 months. Amazing easy manner of presentation, understandable and very... bright.
I read and understand that if this book had appeared in my world before birth, many questions would have disappeared by themselves, and it would have been easier for me to convey my thoughts to others.
At first I had it in electronic form, and then Grandfather Frost gave it to me in paperback, and it became much more pleasant to read. I still don’t know how the book will end, but I probably only received such pleasure from Françoise Sagan.
If I were asked to describe the taste of this book, I would say “sparkling and invigorating, like chilled champagne” (non-alcoholic or children's, of course).
After birth
5. “Parent Rules”
One of the few books written by a man. One hundred rules that do not need to be learned by heart, but simply known and sometimes returned to.
It is impossible to be ideal parents, which means the simplest and most difficult thing at the same time in this new status is the ability to relax. I read and meditate on this topic.
6. “Harmonious development of the child”
One of my friends called me and urgently advised me to grab this book while my baby is 2 months old, so that by 4 she will already be crawling, and by 6 she will be walking. But to be honest, my husband and I showed our favorite quality - laziness, and simply read it without fanaticism.
A lot of words of gratitude, a lot of scientific terms and monologues. BUT! Really useful information. The very model of working with the child’s brain at all stages of its development is interesting. We finished reading the work plan for 9 months and put it aside for a while.
7. “After three it’s too late”
It's amazing how the Japanese look at the world completely differently. The book was written not by a specialist in the field of pedagogy, but simply by a prominent, successful figure who, due to family circumstances, paid attention to the basics of raising a child.
The book is small and can be read in one day (if you want to, of course). After it you want to run to an art gallery, listen only to classical music and buy a violin for your four-month-old baby, putting him in the right mood.
But after a few days, this euphoria passes, and a true understanding comes of what exactly Masaru Ibuka wrote about. And the most amazing thing is that it was written in 1971!
8. "Mom's advice"
A book for newborn mothers. Author: Zhenya Arabkina. I found this book quite by accident on the lowest shelf in ROSPHOTO, in a store where all the books are dedicated to the art of photography.
But nevertheless, somehow it got there along with Murzilka issues and coloring books.
Each page of this wonderful publication contains invaluable advice from experienced mothers.
And since most of my friends have not yet experienced the joys of motherhood, the book was purchased with the intention of passing on this precious knowledge immediately after the status of my friends’ lives was changed.
I scrolled through my post and realized that it was huge. Sorry my friend.
Therefore, briefly about my reading plans:
- Faber Mazlish "Free parents, free children"
- John and Karen Miller "Rules for Happy Families." Pampering cannot be controlled"
- Nigel Latta "Before your child drives you crazy"
- “French children are not naughty”
Thank you for reading to the end. Vera's mother.

Breast-feeding
Breastfeeding is the basis for proper newborn care. Through breastfeeding, in addition to feeding the baby, it provides physical and psycho-emotional contact with the mother, and also ensures its physical and psychological comfort, without which it cannot grow up fully.
Every woman should know that her milk is the most complete food for her child. Over the entire period of human development, the baby’s gastrointestinal tract was not adapted to artificial feeding. From a biological point of view, this is simply impossible. However, in order to realize breastfeeding, you need to know and be able to put into practice the basic rules of breastfeeding.
Basic rules of breastfeeding:
1. Early breastfeeding within the first hour after birth.
2. Avoid feeding the newborn from a bottle or other method before the mother attaches him to the breast.
3. Keeping mother and child together in the same room.
4. Exclusive breastfeeding in the first days of a child’s life.
5. Proper attachment of the baby to the breast and a comfortable position when feeding.
6. Feeding on demand.
7. The duration of feeding is regulated by the child; You should not tear your baby off the breast before he lets go of the nipple.
8. Night feedings and co-sleeping between mother and baby.
9. Elimination of additional drinking and supplementary feeding of a child up to six months.
10. Complete refusal of pacifiers, pacifiers and bottle feeding. If supplementary feeding is necessary, it should be given only from a cup, spoon or pipette.
11. Avoid washing nipples before and after feeding.
12. Elimination of additional breast pumping after each feeding.
13. Refusal from frequent and control weighings of the child after discharge from the maternity hospital, carried out more than once a week.
14. Support for mothers who have breastfed their children for more than a year.
15. Continue breastfeeding until the child is three years old.
A selection of books for children from 0 to 1 year old
I’m simply obsessed with books; even before the birth of my first son, I bought children’s books in series and read them to my belly. By now, a very large collection has accumulated and already occupies 3 shelves, but I don’t stop there. We love reading as a family. My husband reads a lot on his tablet, but you can often see him with a book, especially on vacation, it’s so nice to lie on a sun lounger with a book in your hand.
My reference books now are collections on early childhood development and books on caring for babies. The smallest children, I believe, need various books - cardboard, with opening windows, with moving elements, musical, with tactile inserts, lullabies, with rhymes (Barto, Marshak, Chukovsky), with fairy tales (Turnip, Kolobok, Teremok, etc.) , panoramic books, books for bathing in the bath, books with magnets, stickers, puzzles, eyes and much more. So, our selection for the little ones (from 0 to 1 year): 1. “Montessori Home School” (view in the Labyrinth: https://www.labirint.ru/books/122593/?p=9551) is a guide for young mothers for classes with their children according to the methods of the Italian teacher Maria Montessori

A small child can leaf through and look at cardboard books on his own; some of the books we had were already tried by our eldest son, but I did not allow him to do this, and all the books, in principle, are in good condition. view in My-shop.ru
This short review has not yet included many of our favorite books that will help kids learn about the bright big world around them. The most important thing is the variety of books, the love and attention of the mother, the desire to read together, finding free time for this.
