Tradition

The traditional set is a blanket or envelope, which serves as a necessary attribute of an exciting event. The baby is wrapped in it, tied with a festive ribbon and secured with a lush knot in the shape of a bow. The dressing tape should be 2-3 meters long, and the color should match the gender of the child or be meaningful. Usually, new mothers choose blue or light blue if a boy is born or pink if a girl is born.

A unique preference may be the white and red color scheme, the roots of which originate from the distant traditions of Slavic ancestors. They believed that by tying a package with a similar attribute, they could protect it from illness. The color red in their mythology symbolized the power of fire, which carried a huge amount of vital energy.

What to choose in winter for discharge from the maternity hospital: a blanket, an envelope or a jumpsuit?

Winter blanket for discharge from maternity hospital - pros and cons?

A time-tested (and also older generation) option. However, you should remember that upon discharge from the maternity hospital, they buy clothes in which the baby will have to spend the whole winter. And it’s good if your birthday is in February, but what if it’s in November or December? Then every day for several months you will have to wrap the baby in a blanket, which, firstly, is not very convenient, and secondly, it takes a lot of time.

A compromise option could be an envelope blanket (transformable). Depending on the tasks, it can be used as an envelope (thanks to convenient fastenings with Velcro or elastic bands), and if you unfold it completely, you get a full-fledged blanket. This is a good option for children born at the end of winter, since many parents do not go outside with their newborns at first, but simply “walk” on the balcony. Then, for the first months of your child’s life, a warm blanket-envelope will be enough, and in the spring you can already look at demi-season overalls.

Envelopes for discharge in winter - main types and materials?

There are several types of winter envelopes for discharge.

  1. Elegant envelopes with bows and frills. What cannot be taken away from such an envelope is its excellent appearance. The baby in the photographs will look 100% in the festive envelope. Unfortunately, elegant envelopes, as a rule, get dirty very quickly, so it is difficult to use them as everyday clothes for walking.
  2. Envelopes for discharge made of fur or wool (sheepskin). Warm, functional, practical. Fur envelopes are more expensive, so most parents prefer sheepskin options. When the child grows up, they can be placed in a sled or on your lap so that the baby can sit comfortably. It is best to choose a model that can be completely unfastened with a zipper.
  3. Envelopes made of padding polyester, holofiber, padding polyester, isosoft, Thinsulate and other artificial materials. The undoubted advantage of “synthetics” is their weight; such envelopes are the lightest. They protect well from snow and wind, and are the easiest to care for. In addition, artificial materials do not cause allergies; mites and other microorganisms do not grow in them.

Advice. Avoid outerwear made from natural down. It retains heat well, but the child may develop allergies.

Is it worth buying winter overalls for discharge from the maternity hospital?

In our opinion, overalls are absolutely not suitable for discharge from the maternity hospital.

Why?

First of all, it's not rational. If you buy a jumpsuit that fits your child “just right,” then within a year he will outgrow it. And you will have to buy new clothes for winter. If you take it right away “for growth”, then it will be cold for a small child, especially small hands that simply get lost in the large sleeves.

Secondly, for the first six months of life, children, as a rule, lie in a stroller. And they won’t be able to appreciate all the advantages of the overalls. Still, these clothes are more suitable for children from 5-6 months, who can no longer only lie in a stroller, but also sit.

What to choose - an envelope or a jumpsuit?

The main advantage of overalls over an envelope is that it is comfortable to hold a child in your arms. On the other hand, in winter, newborns are almost never carried; the baby spends most of the time in a stroller. But the child can be taken out of the envelope in one movement (simply by unzipping the zipper).

So if you are planning to leave at the beginning of winter, then it is best to buy a good padding polyester or sheepskin envelope. And if at the end of winter, you can save a little and buy an envelope blanket.

A convenient solution can be special winter sets, which include several items of clothing at once: an envelope and an inner bib overalls. They will help you fully dress your baby for a walk in any (even the coldest) weather.

Discharge in winter

If you don’t know how to dress your baby for discharge from the hospital in winter, check with the medical staff. The maternity hospital workers are well aware of this issue and will help you cope with the dilemma by giving a couple of tips on what you need to take so that the baby gets home safe and sound.

In cold weather, you will need a lot more things, but especially do not overdo it if you are going to get to the family nest in your own car or in a taxi. The main thing is not to overheat the baby. Stock up on a set of underwear consisting of a blouse, romper and vest, insulated terry overalls, a thin hat and a winter envelope knitted from sheep wool with a fur lining.

Socks and mittens will protect your child's tiny hands and feet from wind and frost. You will also need several diapers.

But if you are not a supporter of such hygiene products and think that they are harmful to health, be patient, your baby should remain dry and clean and come home in cozy comfort.

A wet, cold diaper will be much more unpleasant and can cause more harm to health than the myths about the harmful effects of sanitary and hygiene products produced by companies. Wrapped up in care, the baby will fall asleep peacefully and travel the entire way without crying.

Clothing options for winter discharge

Costume options for newborns

It is important to remember the peculiarities of dressing a newborn for discharge in the winter.

Clothing should be selected not only for beauty, but also for comfort and warmth, to be as comfortable and suitable as possible.

There are a number of traditional costume options for newborns, who are prescribed in the winter.

Options for winter clothes are somewhat different from summer ones, in accordance with changes in temperature.

These things include:

  • An envelope is most often an openwork festive outerwear for a baby. It is perfect for discharge and will look great in family photos. Sometimes, if desired, the envelope is insulated with fur. Warm and comfortable, however, the envelope is not practical. It is not suitable for everyday use as lace decorations quickly lose their shape. Moreover, a winter envelope will be quite expensive, so many people prefer to do without it. It would be much more practical to save a little on beauty.
  • A blanket is a widespread option for a baby's discharge outfit. Blankets are much more practical to use and can be useful for more than just one day. To make the clothes look more festive, you can tie a pink or blue ribbon over it. An equally interesting solution would be to wrap the baby in a summer envelope over the blanket. It costs much less than the winter one, but looks no worse. In addition, you can not cover the blanket for decoration, but immediately purchase something that is not only warm, but also beautiful. Currently, in stores you can find a wide variety of blanket options that are not only practical, but also beautiful.
  • A transformable jumpsuit is an outfit that combines the advantages of a regular jumpsuit and an envelope. Outwardly, it resembles a jacket on top, and an envelope, a kind of hollow bag, on the bottom. This option is particularly practical in use. The overalls retain heat well, but the child does not overheat and feels comfortable. In addition, it can be used after discharge; you just need to tinker a little with the zippers on it to finally transform it into a jumpsuit. Thus, it can be used not only in the first year of the baby’s life, depending on the growth rate, it can be worn on the child for several winters.
  • Sheepskin envelope blanket is a blanket made from natural sheepskin. It is distinguished by excellent water resistance, retains heat perfectly, therefore, the child will not experience any inconvenience. For discharge, the blanket can easily be converted into an envelope. It is convenient and practical; it can be used as a blanket or bedding in the stroller for the baby after discharge. The only drawback of this option can be considered only a certain modesty of such clothes, but a festive ribbon can easily correct this.

These clothing options are the main and most common at present.

When choosing, it is important to give preference to natural fabrics and make sure that the outfit is suitable for weather conditions, so that the child is neither hot nor cold and in size.

Discharge in summer

Thinking about what to dress your child for discharge in the summer will not cause trouble. Opt for a beautiful and elegant robe, paying attention to the weather. In hot temperatures, it will be enough to take a blanket made of thick knitted material, a thin hat with ties, rompers or pajamas and do not forget about hygiene products.

Don't be afraid of synthetic things, modern materials have amazing comfort, heat resistance, protect against moisture and allow air to pass through well.

But try not to overheat the baby. Heatstroke will have an unfavorable effect on his well-being and, as a result, will give an unpleasant mood to those gathered.

What you need to take when leaving the hospital in winter

After parents decide on the option of outerwear for a newborn, the problem of seasonal underwear for the baby remains. This issue is no less serious and should not be approached carelessly. It is recommended to select it in accordance with the preferences of the parents and the standard list.

It includes a list of clothes necessary for babies:

  • Outerwear for newborns

A diaper is a must-have item for checkout, which will help avoid possible incidents that could ruin the beauty of the moment. When choosing diapers, you should focus on companies with suitable characteristics. Choose according to the baby’s weight, most often No. 1 is suitable for newborns. It is not recommended to use reusable diapers; it is better to stick to the disposable option.

  • A thin bodysuit or flannel slip is a thin jumpsuit that will cover the baby’s entire body: legs, back and arms and protect against hypothermia. It is fastened with special rivets that are easy to unfasten. For discharge, it is recommended to buy a sleepsuit with special mittens that cover the child’s hands. Its size should match the height of the baby.
  • Socks are necessary for additional insulation of the legs; it is also better to select them according to size.
  • Booties - like socks, are used to warm the baby's feet, but they are a little thicker and warmer.
  • An insulated suit that fits on the slip. Consists of pants and a blouse. When choosing, it is important to pay attention to the fabric from which it is made. Fleece is considered optimal.
  • An extra blanket in case the temperature drops sharply and the baby starts to freeze. This is especially important when the temperature fluctuates and there is a long road ahead.
  • A thin cap or light hat - worn under a warm, thick hat for additional warmth. When choosing, you should pay special attention to the bike and thick knitwear; these fabrics are best suited.
  • A cap with insulation, which is worn over a cap or a lighter hat. It must be the perfect size for the baby so that it does not open the ears and does not slide down into the eyes. It is imperative to have ties that can be used to secure the cap more firmly.
  • A festive ribbon that can be used to tie a blanket or envelope. Pink or blue - depending on the gender of the baby, it will decorate even the simplest blanket.

Before discharge, you should definitely collect this set and not miss anything, so that such a significant day in the life of the family does not become spoiled by any difficulties.

Of course, in addition to the problem of clothing, there are many different nuances that parents should take into account, but it is the right outfit that will help protect the child from illness.
