Definition of the concept
Wen are benign lumps that arise from adipose tissue. They can be either acquired or congenital. They develop in the subcutaneous layer. If the child’s immune system is severely weakened, the wen can penetrate into the muscle area and affect the bones.
Wen on a child’s face can be of two types:
- milia are small wen, which are often located on the nose and cheeks, in most cases they go away on their own without proper treatment;
- large lipomas. These formations can be dangerous, especially if there is an inflammatory process. The threat may lie in the risk of squeezing blood vessels.
The location of lipomas can be: chest, face, area behind the ears, armpits, scalp, back, legs.
Wen can be located on different parts of the body, but in most cases the area of their localization is the head, and in infants - the face.
Small formations can go away on their own. As for the larger ones or those that continue to grow, they need to be removed.
Lipoma in a child Surgical removal in 1 day
The MedicaMente clinic in Korolev has accumulated extensive experience in performing operations to remove lipomas and other benign subcutaneous lesions in children. The operation is short and performed under general anesthesia Sevoran. Recovery from anesthesia is “soft.” The child wakes up quickly and can be discharged home in the evening.

Lipo is a subcutaneous formation of adipose tissue. Simply put, lipoma is often referred to as “fatty.” Lipomas can develop not only in adult patients, but also in children at an early age.
A pediatric surgeon or pediatrician can diagnose the disease during an examination.
In addition, ultrasound diagnostics are performed to determine the size, depth and connection with surrounding tissues or organs.
Lipomas can form almost anywhere, but most often parents go to a pediatric surgeon to remove fat from the head, back, under the eye, neck, and armpit.
lipomas are growing! Large tumors can interfere with the normal functioning of nearby tissues and organs.
If the baby's fatty tissue may be interfering with the normal development of nearby tissues, it must be removed. Surgical removal is still the most effective method of removing limescale compared to other lip treatments. Laser fat removal follows a conventional surgical procedure. Healing takes 1-2 weeks.
Possible reasons
The appearance of wen may be due to a violation of metabolic processes in the body.
Among the most common causes are:
- hormonal imbalance in the mother’s body before the baby is born;
- genetic predisposition in a child, that is, the formation of lipomas can be hereditary;
- disruption of the functioning of the sebaceous glands (white wen appears precisely for this reason);
- lack of personal hygiene rules;
- problems with the liver, kidneys;
- use of synthetic diapers and vests;
- increased sensitivity of the skin;
- sedentary lifestyle;
- excess weight;
- diseases of the genitourinary system;
- pathologies of the endocrine system;
- the presence of hypo- or vitamin deficiency;
- lack of proper nutrition, consumption of low-quality products that contain preservatives and chemical additives.
Prevention in children
A mother can begin preventing lipomas in a baby during pregnancy by following simple rules:
- fill your diet with healthy, low-fat foods;
- drink enough clean water;
- to refuse from bad habits;
- eat seasonal fruits and vegetables;
- carefully monitor personal hygiene;
- beware of viral diseases;
- be under the supervision of a gynecologist and periodically undergo the necessary tests;
- If your health condition worsens, immediately visit your doctor.
When a baby is born, it is exposed to many negative influences, and the main task of any mother is to protect him from them. When it comes to breastfeeding, it is recommended to follow the rules of hygiene; caring for the baby should be as gentle as possible (using exclusive baby soap). Love and care will protect the newborn from skin problems, and parents from unnecessary worries and worries.
Lipoma is a tumor neoplasm, in the formation of which adipose tissue takes part. That is why it is also called wen. It can be diagnosed regardless of age in both infants and older children. The main provoking factor in the development of the disease is hereditary predisposition. Lipoma in children does not have a predisposition to degenerate into cancer, but can be subject to inflammatory processes and cause some inconvenience.

Characteristic manifestations
- Small formations may not cause any discomfort to the child; they can be identified completely by accident.
- Lipomas often develop slowly and can maintain their size for many years.
- The compaction increases in size in rare cases and then it is necessary to resort to radical measures.
- You can make sure that you are faced with a wen by resorting to a visual inspection:
- elastic, soft structure of formation;
- mobile, no fusion with the skin;
- no pain;
- round or oval shape.
Wen located on the cheeks, lips, and in the eye area are usually a consequence of improper functioning of the sebaceous glands. They are visually similar to small white pimples and often disappear without specialized treatment.
Complications
Fatty tissues do not pose a particular threat to the health of children if they do not have an inflammatory process. They also very rarely degenerate into malignant neoplasms. But if inflammation is associated with the lipoma, you should immediately see a doctor. Otherwise, tumor suppuration and other serious consequences may occur.
If you squeeze the wen yourself, you can introduce an infection into it. Moreover, such actions will not bring results. It is best to remove a lipoma in a medical setting. This should only be done by doctors using special equipment.
Possible threat
- Lipoma that appears in infants is considered a temporary phenomenon that does not pose a danger. However, if the formation is injured, its integrity is damaged, then in such a situation degeneration into a malignant tumor may occur. But this phenomenon can be observed in very rare cases and only in children with weakened immune systems.
- The appearance of wen in the ears can lead to hearing impairment, and on the eyelids - to deterioration of vision.
- It is important to know that lipomas can become inflamed from time to time and even fester, sometimes opening on their own. In such situations, they can become a source of sepsis in the body.
How to prevent the occurrence
It is almost impossible to prevent lipoma in children, as well as in adults. But you can try to reduce risk factors if the expectant mother follows a few simple rules:
- eat healthy, low-fat foods;
- include fruits and vegetables in the diet;
- do not drink alcohol;
- maintain hygiene;
- protect yourself from viral diseases before and during pregnancy;
- register with a gynecologist, follow his recommendations and conduct the necessary research;
- notify your doctor about changes in your health.
Proper care and feeding of a newborn also plays an important role in the health and development of the baby.

Wen in newborns is a phenomenon that often causes concern among young parents. Externally, the formations resemble small white balls under the skin. In medicine they are called lipomas, which are subcutaneous accumulations of fatty tissue. The growth is localized in the corners of the eyes, wings of the nose, and cheeks.
Treatment
Large lipomas need to be removed.
It is important to know that getting rid of lipomas at home is unacceptable. Self-medication can lead to serious consequences.
If you are interested in the question of how to remove a wen, then in most cases we are talking about removal. In the presence of small formations, Ichthyol ointment or Vishnevsky ointment can be used, but only as prescribed by a doctor.
Indications for removal may be the presence of the following manifestations:
- the location of the lipoma is the neck area (due to the threat of possible compression of blood vessels);
- Wen negatively affects the functioning of internal organs;
- the formation grows, increasing in size, causing pain to the child;
- redness of the lipoma and a feeling of itching are noted.
There are several methods to help get rid of lipoma.
- Endoscopy. Using a surgical instrument, a small incision is made, after which the specialist destroys the contents of the fat capsule, bringing it out. There is almost no trace left on the area of application of this method, but there is a possibility of recurrence of lipoma.
- Cryodestruction. Liquid nitrogen is used, with which the wen is frozen. The formation is removed without a scar. However, this method is used only in the presence of small-sized wen. Sometimes one procedure is not enough.
- Laser. The use of a laser beam allows you to destroy fatty tissue. The advantages of this method include the absence of possible complications and bleeding during the procedure. If a child has undergone laser removal, then for the first three days you should not be in direct sunlight.
- Puncture method. The wen is pierced and its contents are pumped out.
- Surgical method. The surgeon uses a scalpel to make an incision and remove the wen along with the capsule. This method is used when there is a large formation. After surgery, the sutures are removed after about a week. It is important to avoid rubbing clothing against the former location of the wen. The main disadvantage of this method is the appearance of a scar after the procedure.
Only a specialist can choose the appropriate removal method. In pediatrics, lipoma removal is performed using local anesthesia.
My son was diagnosed with wen twice. The first time it was a tiny white lesion on my cheek. It did not require surgery and went away on its own. The second time, three years later, a convex formation appeared in the collarbone area, which began to increase in size. The doctor suggested the only treatment option - surgical removal. The surgery left a large, raised scar, which became less noticeable over time.
Memo to dads and moms: what to do?
It is important for parents to remember some rules in the fight against wen:
- You should not self-medicate at home; only a medical specialist can assess the degree of the threat and eliminate it;
- You should not use folk remedies, they do not give any effect;
- it is important to adjust the diet: more vitamins, fermented milk products, less sweets, fatty foods (if the child has consumed these before);
- After consulting with a pediatrician, it is important to adhere to all his recommendations and instructions.
Do I need to treat?
Wen usually does not require treatment. They go away on their own by the third month of the baby’s life. Some single formations can remain for up to a year. If they interfere or are very noticeable, you should contact your pediatrician for an appointment for laser removal.
A rash of white dots often occurs on the nose. It's not very pretty, but you can't squeeze or scrape them out. They do not bother the baby and are not dangerous to health. Mom must follow hygiene procedures to keep the skin clean, and the wen will go away on its own.
If the rash is located on the scalp, you should also not panic. You need to be careful when washing your hair, comb your hair carefully so as not to damage the wen. They will also disappear on their own if you properly care for your child’s skin.
The location of the rashes near the eyes, on the upper eyelid, under the eye can bother the baby and cause discomfort when blinking. This will be immediately noticeable by the child’s restless behavior. In such cases, the fatty tissues are removed without waiting for them to resolve on their own. The baby should be shown to a doctor and further actions should be determined. Self-medication is dangerous.
Diagnostics
A dermatovenerologist can recognize a wen visually, by its appearance.
Differential diagnosis can also be used. It is carried out for benign or malignant formations on the skin. We mentioned earlier that occasionally wen can be malignant. Then they are called not lipomas, but liposarcomas. To verify the diagnosis, ultrasound and computed tomography are performed.
Ultrasound examination helps to see the wen as a hypoechoic formation with a capsule, which is located among the subcutaneous fat layer or between the fibers of muscle tissue. A CT scan is needed to determine the structure of the tumor. For example, it is determined how a tumor absorbs X-ray rays in comparison with the tissues located around the tumor.
Research should be carried out only in a professional medical institution with good equipment. Then the diagnosis will be the most accurate and correct.
Localization of wen
Where do children usually develop wen? They can also occur on internal organs, but this is rare. Tumors grow under the skin, in muscle tissue, and in places above the bone tissue. Although lipoma is called a wen, it itself, as a rule, is located where there is almost no fat. Most often, a child has only one wen. However, if more than one of them is detected, then a diagnosis of lipomatosis is made.
Most often, formations are localized on:
- head and neck;
- face and back;
- shoulders and legs.
