How to feed twins

Even mothers of one baby do not always immediately master the correct attachment when breastfeeding, and what can we say about twins! To begin with, try to feed the little ones one at a time - this way you can control the process. When children master the “science of sucking,” it is better to feed them in parallel, applying at the same time.

As for the postures for such “synchronized” feeding, two options are used:

  • the babies are pressed against their mother’s belly, their heads are apart, their legs are crossed (a kind of double “cradle”);
  • both babies lie under the mother’s arm, their heads are next to each other, and their legs are behind the mother’s back.

Reviews

Good evening from the far north! Thank you so much for the lectures on breastfeeding! They literally pulled me out of a terrible state (both moral and physical). There was severe lactostasis, when everyone advised only (and only!) to express, and using different methods. But if you take into account that the temperature persisted, and there was a tiny doll at home, then I was completely confused about what to do and how to save myself from the mastitis that everyone had predicted. The surgeon in the hospital twisted my chest so much that I almost lost consciousness from the pain. And then my husband found your site (my most important assistant and support is my husband). We immediately began, contrary to all predictions about the operation and loss of milk, to establish breastfeeding according to your method, without pumping, with correct latching on demand. AND A MIRACLE! After several feedings, the baby himself resolved the congestion, the temperature subsided, and the milk did not disappear anywhere, to the surprise of all the “advisers.” Your knowledge and experience are a salvation for a huge number of mothers! Now I recommend your method to my friends, but, unfortunately, in most cases I run into misunderstandings. In any case, I give the link to the site to everyone! Thank you so much for a healthy, happy, satisfying sleep for your baby!

Hello! My name is Saniya. I am Vasilisa’s mother, she is 1 year 2 weeks old. A year ago, around these days, I was discharged from the hospital, where I was admitted with postpartum endometritis. Then my daughter was only two weeks old, of which she spent the week that I spent in the hospital with her grandmother and father. And now I again remember with gratitude Larisa Sviridova and her course on breastfeeding, with the help of which we managed to get through this difficult situation quite calmly. I was 33 years old. Vasilisa is the first and only child for whose birth I especially prepared. While pregnant, I attended Larisa's courses. The most valuable thing I received as a result was confidence and knowledge about what to do and not to do, how to behave so that everything would be fine during pregnancy, during childbirth and in the first year of the child’s life. And I also realized that I would definitely breastfeed my child. When, soon after giving birth, there was an urgent need to go to the hospital, I began to panic. Treatment included antibiotics and a stay in the purulent-septic department. I was tormented by the thought of how I would leave my baby? What to do with breastfeeding? What if my daughter doesn't accept the breast when I return from the hospital? Is it necessary to describe my physical and moral torment? Probably any woman will understand this... I turned to Larisa for help, she provided me with psychological support, explained how to maintain lactation and how to feed the baby correctly. I pumped milk every three hours for a week. Vasilisa was fed a mixture from a special spoon. Here, a special thank you to my mother, who had the strength, patience and courage not to grab the bottle. In the hospital, I was very worried about the child. But this whole story ended well, the daughter still eats breasts. We are happy. Thanks to Larisa and her course on breastfeeding!

Hello! I am Evgenia, a happy mother of two wonderful children, 5 years old and 2 years old. I took a course on breastfeeding by Larisa Sviridova when I was pregnant with my first. I breastfed my son safely and happily until he was 1 year 8 months old. But, oddly enough, this course was especially useful to me with my second child. Being already an “experienced” mother, with successful breastfeeding experience behind me, I wasn’t even worried about feeding before my second birth. But the problems started within an hour! after childbirth. My daughter did not want to take the breast, I was worried, nervous, I kept trying to attach her to the breast, and as a result, only after 2 hours I managed to somehow put the nipple into my barely open mouth. A day later, the situation had not changed much: my daughter wanted to eat, but she could barely open her mouth, and she was unable to latch onto the breast correctly. As a result, after a few days, due to improper latching, the nipples became covered with cracks, and feeding was not only “not a pleasure,” but simply torture. And then lactostasis began with a temperature of under forty and breasts like stones. Doctors could only offer hospitalization with antibiotic treatment, and this meant putting an end to breastfeeding. I am very grateful to this course and to Larisa, because, I will say without exaggeration, it was he who helped cope with lactostasis without hospitals and medications. I was able to understand what proportion of lumps are in the breast, how to properly attach the baby so that he dissolves them (oh, I remember those acrobatic sketches during night feeding)))) And the advice about cabbage leaves (a miracle cure!!!!) is exactly that. from there. Thanks to these “recipes,” my daughter and I coped with lactostasis in 2 days! And then, forgetting about all my experience of feeding my elder, who could not help me with my younger one (after all, all children are different!), I once again studied the course on breastfeeding, and my daughter and I learned again how to apply to the breast correctly, for a long time and diligently! And finally, when Polya was one month old, all the cracks had healed, all the difficulties were forgotten, and for another whole year the little girl was a happy “nursing” baby to everyone’s joy. Although my husband and I decided that two children were enough for us, when I write these lines, I think with tears in my eyes: “Will I never again see a small face near my breast, smacking with pleasure, which, catching my gaze, without releasing the nipple? from his mouth, breaks into a happy smile...”

Hello! My name is Natalya. I am the mother of a wonderful little girl Anechka, she is 2 years and 2 months old. During pregnancy, I listened to a very complete and interesting course of lectures on breastfeeding by Larisa Sviridova. Before him, I knew absolutely nothing about childbirth, or newborns, or, especially, about breastfeeding. After listening to the information, I was ready for almost anything. But there is theory, and there is practice. It gets a little more complicated here... For example, I knew for sure that the baby needed to be fed at night, but my daughter slept from 11 pm to 6 am without waking up, and I was so happy and didn’t wake her up. Another example: I knew for sure that I needed to feed my baby on demand. But at the maternity hospital, the doctor told me that the minimum break between feedings is 2 hours, otherwise the baby’s stomach will not be able to digest the food, and colic will begin! I believed and obeyed, although my daughter asked to eat every 40 minutes. As a result, the child’s weight loss per month is 100 grams. Then the doctors threaten: you don’t have enough milk, urgently introduce supplementary feeding, your child is on the verge of life and death. At the same time there is a lot of milk, I am in shock and in tears! However, now I understand that everything worked out quite quickly. After all, I really risked being left without breast milk: doctors and relatives, seeing the weight loss, insisted on formula. But I had basic knowledge that helped me not to panic, and I knew exactly who to turn to with breastfeeding problems. The whole process was finally adjusted in 1.5 months, and for the next almost a year and a half I did not have any problems with breastfeeding. I fed my daughter until she was 1.5 years old without formula, pacifiers or bottles, and I think that this is my great achievement and a good foundation for her health. We have strong immunity, no allergies and a healthy appetite. Thank you very much to Larisa Sviridova for the knowledge that helped me not to get confused at a difficult moment, and most importantly, for my positive attitude!

How to tell if your child is full

Often babies “hang on the boobs” for almost hours. This is both painful and tiring for mom. To understand when a child is simply sucking for a sense of security, and when he is also satisfying hunger, pay attention to his behavior.

  • Hungry babies suck greedily and actively. If the movements of the sponges are lazy and the baby falls asleep, most likely he is already full.
  • Keep an eye on weight gain and feeding frequency: if the average norms are maintained, and you don’t need to feed the little one every quarter of an hour, then everything is in perfect order.

Important! If the baby is gaining little weight, asks for the breast very often, but at the same time sucks little by little, it means that he is not receiving enough “hind” milk - it is fattier and thicker, and it is more difficult to “extract” it. Try to wake up the little sloth by rubbing your breast across the cheek; give up the pacifier; if you feed the baby, do it with a spoon. Don't rush to switch to mixtures!
