Dried apple compote for babies

Making this apple compote for babies is very simple. It only requires a handful (about 20 g) of dried fruit and a large glass of water (250 ml). You can sweeten the compote with sugar or use fructose, which is sold in most pharmacies. When choosing apples for compote, you need to make sure that they are not too dry, as in this case they will have a bitter aftertaste. It is best to take fruits that have been dried outdoors, in the sun, and not in the oven.

Before cooking, apples should be soaked in warm water for a while to allow them to swell. After this, they are thoroughly washed and poured into boiling water. Then cook for about a quarter of an hour. After turning off the compote, cover it with a lid and leave to infuse. The cooled compote is passed through a fine strainer and sweetened with sugar or its substitute, for example, fructose.

To prepare such a compote, you will need several pieces of dried apples and a tablespoon of some berries, for example, black currants. After thorough washing, fruits and berries are poured into a thermos, and about a glass of boiling water is poured into it. This entire mixture is left to infuse overnight. In the morning, pour another glass of water into the resulting compote, put it on the fire and bring to a boil, then cook for about 5 - 10 minutes. To add sweetness to the compote, you can add fructose to it.

Rose hips contain 10 times more ascorbic acid than black currants. All pediatricians recommend feeding an infant a rosehip decoction starting from the age of five months. Rose hips contain calcium, which will be in demand at this age, since babies are already starting to cut their teeth.

But you need to choose exactly those rose hips that are able to retain vitamin “C” all year round. These include the needle and Daurian rose hips.

Babies should be given rosehip decoction based on:

  • 20 grams per day if they are not yet six months old;
  • from 30 to 50 grams per day for children under two years old.

Drink the decoction before meals, several times a day. Here are a couple of recipes for making it.

  1. 10 g of rose hips are poured with boiling water and allowed to steep for at least five hours. No need to add sugar.
  2. The rose hips are crushed. Two tablespoons of it are poured into 400 ml of water in a glass jar. The jar is placed in a pan filled with hot water, then boiled for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, the broth is allowed to cool and filtered.

To prevent the decoction from losing its beneficial properties, it is advisable to use it within the first two days.

Contraindications

You should not give this decoction to children suffering from stomach diseases - a large amount of vitamin C contained in rose hips can cause aggravation. Also, excessive consumption of the drink can wash away calcium, which affects kidney function. Such decoctions are not recommended for children suffering from increased blood clotting.

Whatever drink you want to prepare for your baby, you still need to start with one fruit. It's better if it's a green apple. Then you can add other fruits or berries, choosing those that do not contain allergens.

Every time you give your baby compote, be sure to monitor his reaction for several hours. Add new fruits to the compote only after a couple of days, if the baby’s body reacts normally.
