The table of crash tests for children's car seats is simple, since it summarizes all the results into a common 5-point system. Having calculated the average rating, a final rating is given for each of the presented car seats, when calculating ratings for protection and comfort take precedence over ratings for use and care. We also focused specifically on safety, comfort and convenience, sometimes neglecting such indicators as “environmental friendliness, environmental pollution during disposal.”

Classification of chairs by groups
As you already know, not all car seats are created equal. They are conventionally divided into several groups:
- Group 0+. It includes carriers for newborns up to 13 kg (car seats). These products can be placed on both the front and rear seats. The main condition is to install the cradle against the movement of the car. For fixation, use a standard seat belt or a special Isofix system.
- Group 1 is represented by chairs for babies from one to four years old. In this case, the body weight limit ranges from 9 kg to 18 kg.
- Group 2 – these are car seats for children from seven years old. Weight is also taken into account, which ranges from 15 kg to 25 kg. The peculiarity of the models of this group is the latches. Internal belts are no longer used - only external ones.
- Group 3 includes car seats for older children who weigh up to 36 kg. There are also no internal straps. For fixation, regular car seat belts are used. These products are most often boosters - seat linings.
Important! It is difficult to find children's car seats on sale that would completely belong to a specific group. Most often, products combine one or another type of product by half or by a third.

The selection of car seats according to parameters must include mandatory compliance of products with the ECE R44.03 standard. It regulates all technical parameters of a child seat in a car. They must be tested for impact resistance in the safety rating before going on sale. The latest edition of the auto standard came into force in 1995. According to it, a high-quality ADAC-rated car seat:
- Protects against side and frontal collisions:
- provides for the introduction of a new subgroup “0+” and color coding, which helps when installing the product (red - the front side is installed in the direction of travel of the car, blue - against);
- undergoes a series of tests.
The tests that child seats undergo are as follows:
- compliance of seat belts with tension force, resistance to temperature changes, abrasive substances and ultraviolet radiation;
- opening the belt buckle with a force of 40-60 N, which corresponds to about 4-6 kg when not loaded. If it is present, this figure increases to 80 N;
- preventing the belt from slipping or moving more than the standard.

Car seat for children: better safety on the road!
Also pay attention to the following features:
- size of the transportation device;
- compliance with the child’s weight;
- backrest tilt adjustment (convenient when the child spends a lot of time in the car and can comfortably stay awake and sleep);
- availability of a table for eating;
- compatibility of fasteners with your car (checked in universal models);
- shoulder and head protection;
- accessories (curtains, covers);
- seat material. Find out if it is hypoallergenic and how well it washes.
Experts do not recommend purchasing seats that have been used.
Despite their apparent integrity, their fasteners and adjustment mechanisms could be deformed. Otherwise, the baby's life will be in danger.

When purchasing a car seat, parents should know that the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe has developed a special safety standard for such products.
After 2009, its version ECE R44/04 came into force - its requirements are mandatory for products that are used to transport a child.
Why is a car seat necessary?
Before entering the retail chain, all products without exception are properly certified. At the same time, it is guaranteed that there are detailed and understandable instructions, as well as a complete set of everything necessary. There must be a diagonal belt clamp with a mechanism that selects the tension force of the belt.
Preliminary tests should show that falling out of the device is excluded; when turning over, the head should not deviate more than 30 cm from its original position. The tests do not allow any parts to break, buckles to open, or locking systems to fail. The width of the straps must be more than 25 mm for groups 0, 0+ and 1 and more than 38 mm for 2 and 3. In the event of a collision, they must not move more than 30 mm.
The certificate is orange in color and is marked with the letter E and an index of numbers placed in a circle. This is important for every parent to know, so it is worth sharing this information.
